Microwaved Kitten Recovering

BOSTON — A kitten is being treated at the Angell Animal Medical Center in Jamaica Plain after someone stuck the animal in a microwave and turned on the power.
NewsCenter 5’s Steve Lacy reported Wednesday that the kitten, named Edison, survived and is now on the mend. The 6-week-old was thrown into a microwave about two weeks ago.
“The ear tissue is dying off and needs to be removed,” said Dr. Kiko Bracker, of Angell Animal Medical Center. “There are some burns on the top of the feet that we are cleaning up, as well as two areas on the tail.”
The cat’s prognosis is good. It will be another two to four weeks before it is completely healthy.
“The cat comes in every day or every other day to have the wounds dressed and cleaned,” Bracker said.
The kitten was dropped off at the hospital on July 3. Angell President Carter Luke said that there is a well-known link between acts of violence against animals and similar acts against humans.
“When you think about it, who is throwing a cat in the microwave, or setting an animal on fire or cutting off the ear of a dog. These are not people who go home to their families or go to church picnics,” he said.
“This cat will ultimately be a happy and normal cat. It will look a little different, but he will have no idea that he looks any different from his playmates,” Bracker said.
